Crossing into the Electric Magnetic (2024) sound art workshop residency
Crossing into the Electric Magnetic was a workshop residency in experimental electronic music practice which took place at the AqTushetii Artist Residency Centre, Omalo, Republic of Georgia. During the residency participants spent time collectively tuning into the natural and folk rhythms of this remote part of Georgia. Through shared meditation and deep listening sessions, talks, lectures and practical workshops in analogue and digital recording mediums, the artists devloped their skills in sound production processed and produced sound pieces that were then presented at the end of the residency. Material was gathered through field recordings; travelling to nearby sites and local festivals using digital and tape recorders. Tusheti Loops was a 5 minute sound piece made during my time spent in Tusheti and responded to the natural rhythms of its remote landscape as well as its socio-political context of the region, its cultural heritage and folk traditions.
My place on this residency was made possible by a WEVAA artist bursary, supported by Visual Arts South West and Arts Council England.
